- Right ;-)
- At work you could install ka9q/nos as a slipserver. There are a lot of
- compilations around the world. I recommand nos10b, because it works
- well for me. If you don't now how to setup a slipserver with nos:
- get 'sliplog.zip' from biochemistry.cwru.edu /nos/utilitys or from
- mvmpc9.ciw.uni-karlsruhe.de /gopher/public/nos. This package contains
- an access controlprogram, you should install at work and some samples,
- showing the routing, the installation of the packetdrivers and so on...

- Subject: wsirc1.2 and winirc questions
-
- I have downloaded both winirc and wsirc1.2 and have a question about each one.
-
- In winirc, the command '/list -min 10' gets an empty list (i.e. headings but
- no information), is this not a valid winirc command? I often don't want the
- whole list.
-
- In wsirc, I have two questions. The first is also connected to list. Wsirc
- will accept the command '/list -min 10', but it prints out the list in a tiny
- sliver next to the command window and none of the windows controls sem to have
- any effect on this tiny window sizing. Is there away around this? My second
- question is about chat mode. When I join a group the dialogue gets displayed
- in the command window and each line has all the information possible (i.e.
- server, group, etc.), with the actual message appearing at the end. It makes
- for very awkward reading. Is there a way to get around this as well?
-
- Thanks,
- Paul

-
- I didn't know this was supposed to be hard. Maybe I just did the right thing
- by accident. Try setting your WinVN icon properties so the Working Directory
- is the directory your WinVN program is in. That's how I'm set up and that's
- where my WINVN.INI file resides.
-
- I haven't tried setting this to a =different= directory than the program, but
- that would be worth a try to see if you can maintain multiple copies of NEWSRC
- and WINVN.INI for different users (or for different news servers). But even
- if that doesn't work, the size of the WINVN executable and help file, etc are
- small compared to the NEWSRC file. So it wouldn't be the end of the world if
- you had to maintain separate copies of the entire WINVN files for each user.
-
- I =have= successfully done it that way. I have two different news servers I
- sometimes access and just created a complete installation of WinVN for each.
- I haven't had time to experiment and see if I can do better.

- Subject: Trumpet and Xwindemo - please help newbie
-
- Warning: very stupid newbie questions about SLIP, Winsock, and Xwindemo,
- but hope that some kind souls will help me anyhow.
-
- Having seen posting of Xwindemo on the net, I decided to try it out and
- see what it is like. So, I downloaded Xwindemo and Trupmet Winsock, and
- thought that I was ready to roll. I first started Winsock, used the Setup
- option to choose Internal SLIP, and use the script to dial up a SLIP
- server. Winsock went through the username and password prompts, printed
- out the IP address the server assigns me, printed a message like
- "SLIP ENABLED", and then froze. Is that what's supposed to happen? (I
- have used Telix to dial up to the same SLIP server, and if I type "SLIP"
- after logging in, it also freezes. Why?)
-
- No knowing what to do, I left the Winsock hanging and started Xwindemo.
- I have no idea what the correct setup for Xwindemo is, but I ran it and
- tried the different options anyway. I got a message about Winsock
- being located, and a copule other non-error type messages. "Looks good",
- I thought. I tried to run the "rsh" option, giving it a hostname that I
- know of, my user name on that host, and the command "xterm". No response.
- I fiddled around with the XWin option (?), chose something like "single
- window" and some other things, and started Xwindemo again. This time a
- MS-type window came up, grey display area, and again, no other response.
-
- I changed the parameters of the two software and started the whole
- process many, many times. Some times I would get an error message from
- Xwindemo during start up about the network being down.
-
- Can some one tell me what I am doing wrong? Or tell me how to set up the
- parameters on the two software? Any help will be very much appreciated.

- Subject: FTP server on Winsock? (ms tcp/ip beta)
-
- Hello,
-
- I recently switched to ms-tcp/ip on my wfwg configuration to allow for winsock
- support. However, the winsock provided in the daytona beta that I am using
- does not permit the proper functioning of wftd from Alun Jones, or the FTP
- server in qvtnet. Both worked fine using Tattam's winsock, which did not run
- well under wfwg 3.11
-
- Anyone have any ideas why, or more importantly what ftp server could I use in
- this configuration?
-
- Thanks for any help. E-mail preferred.

- I'd like to see drag and drop capabilities to an ftp program. For instance,
- I'd love to have an ftp program open to some site and be able to drag a file
- from the file manager and drop it on an icon and have the file transfered to
- whatever the current directory is on the remote site.
-
- Better yet, create an add-on to the file manager which would allow you to open
- a ftp connection to another site as a window in the file manager; thereby
- giving you a psuedo nfs mount.
